It honestly feels like only yesterday that I was leaving the house wrapped up in a cashmere pullover and scarf... Summer is finally here and what better way to enjoy the warmer weather than by updating your denim pieces for the season? We're no longer pulling out the thermals and jumpers, so let's have a look at how to update your denim pieces for the current weather! 1. DungareesPlain Top - Topshop (similar here) / Dungarees - Whistles / Shoes - Underground (single sole creepers) / Sunglasses - Rayban (round) / Jacket - All Saints (similar here) Dungarees - yes, if you're short like me you're verging on an oversized toddler look, but considering how comfortable and easy they are to wear, I really don't mind. They're a great piece to invest in for Spring as they can be worn dressed up with a crisp white shirt and a pair of mules, or dressed down with a plain t-shirt and a pair of trainers. They're definitely the statement piece in any outfit, so don't fuss too much on the other elements. Here are my top pairs of the moment on the high street: 1. Whistles have just re-released these denim dungarees and they've had a bit of an update 2. This super relaxed pair from Asos are perfect for lazy Summer days 3. Slim fit and grungey, this pair by Cheap Monday are perfect for festivals 2. Bright ColoursDenim Jacket - Gap / Shirt - Vintage / Jeans - Topshop Boutique / Bag - Vintage / Shoes - Underground (double sole creepers) What screams "let the sun shine" more than a piece of coloured denim? I don't know. Embrace the sun and warmer weather with something a little bit out-of-the-box for your wardrobe and invest in something colourful. My winter wardrobe is always filled with darker colours, so the best way to get out of that habit is by pushing yourself to be a little more out there. I invested in these incredible bright orange jeans from Topshop Boutique, and I can't reccomend them enough. The quality is great, the colour is certainly eye catching, and the high waisted straight leg style with the contrasting white stitching and raw hemlines is a great nod to retro. The pictures make them look a bit more neon than they actually are, so don't be put off by that, but they're actually surprisingly easier to style than I thought they would be. They go great with patterned or white shirts, crop tops, band tees, and a lot more. Here are some of my favourite coloured pieces at the moment: 1. These classic coloured straight leg jeans from Wrangler 2. This baby pink oversized jacket from Monki 3. These kooky lilac oversized flares from Warehouse Top - Topshop (similar here)/ Jeans - Topshop Boutique / Trench Coat - Phase Eight (similar here) / Bag - Vintage / Slides - Ego 3. The Denim JacketDenim Jacket - Whistles / Top - Zara (similar here) / Trousers - Boden (similar here) / Bag - Vintage / Sandals - Whistles What would a girl do without the staple denim jacket? A saviour during the Summer months, a denim jacket can easily be dressed up as well as worn casually on a day-to-day basis. Lightweight, comfortable, and versatile - what more could you ask for? There's also a lot more variety when it comes to denim jackets than most people think of. For example, you can go 100% classic with the straight cut, hip length style made famous by Gap, or you could go all-out-nineties with a kooky embroidered jacket (check out Rokit and Beyond Retro for great vintage styles). The styling options are endless, and what better to invest in than something timless. My top picks of the moment: 1. The classic 1969 style made famous by Gap 2. This embroidered one from Asos x Lot Stock & Barrel is a vintage inspired, kooky alternative 3. If you want something a bit more fun, try this patchwork style from Gap 4. The Denim One-PieceJumpsuit - Same as above / Sandals - Vagabond (gold version here)/ Bag - Furla What's more comfortable and laidback to wear in the Summer than a streamlined, loose fitting one piece? In my opinion, nothing really. Playsuits and jumpsuits are one of the most relaxed things to wear in the warm weather, and yet they can be dressed up with a pair of heels and a clutch bag instantly. Denim one-pieces add a bit of edge to a classic piece, and are great when rolled up at the sleeve casually, or buttoned up fully for a smarter look. Ever since Alexa Chung modelled the denim romper for her collection for AG Jeans, I've been obsessed. Here are my favourites of the moment: 1. This cool and casual denim wrap-around jumpsuit from Whistles 2. This simple, yet beautiful, jumpsuit from AG Jeans 3. This perfect for Summer-nights-out playsuit by Vale on Asos What are your favourite denim pieces for the Summer? x
