New year, new duster coat

Happy new year, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years Eve. Apologies for the hiatus - the Christmas period was busy. Lot's of family, lot's of friends, and an amazing trip to Berlin (a seperate post on the trip will be coming soon!). I felt that the best way to start off the new year would be with an outfit post, centering around a few new wardrobe staples of mine - the main one being this fantastic duster coat.

Duster Coat - Topshop (almost the same here) / Jumper - Whistles / Jeans - Whistles (on sale now) / Boots - Russell & Bromley / Scarf - Amazon / Sunglasses - Rayban (Round) / Bag - Furla
One of my Christmas presents this year was this incredible, heritage check duster coat from Topshop. I'd been eyeing it up for months, and when I saw it in the black friday sale, I decided it was a sure-fire chrimbo present candidate (say that ten times fast...). It's not too thick, which is perfect for those warmer London Winter days, but the length is what really steals the show. For someone as short as I am (*hehem* 5'2''), you'd think that this coat would drown my frame easily. Surprisingly, no. Due to the classic, structured tailoring (think longline men's coats), the coat is extremely flattering on all body-types, and when paired with heeled boots, helps to elongate short legs like mine. I would still probably not brave this coat with a pair of flats, however  - if you're under average height, it won't really do you any favours (hello, grimey London Underground escalators).

Another positive factor about the coat? The colour/pattern combination. The Autumnal yellows and greens in this check pattern help to brighten up any outfit (which is crucial during these gloomy Winter months), and let's face it, who can really resist the glory of the traditional English tweed pattern? It's classic for a reason.
I paired the coat with another new love of mine - this camel high neck jumper from Whistles. I am notorious for my endless collection of black roll-necks, so I thought it would be nice to spice some things up this year and go for a new colour in my wardrobe - camel. It's surprisingly easy to wear as it goes well with all base colours - navy, black, white and grey, and the tie detail at the front adds a nice edge to any look. And considering it's a lovely thin wool/cashmere mix, the quality is impeccable. Add a pair of frayed black cigarette jeans, some ankle boots, a patterned scarf and my trusty raybans, this is my perfect "Welcome to the New Year" look.  :)

Stay tuned for the next StyleChat coming soon, and a new segment on the blog that I will be releasing soon! xo
